You Never Know Who You’ll Meet

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

A few weeks ago I took some time off and visited a small little town in Mexico called Sayulita.  You never know who you’ll meet.  During an unplanned breakfast I noticed a gentleman who was probably in his 60’s sitting alone.  I said hello, and the next thing I knew we were talking about his life story.  He left Brooklyn, New York 40 years ago and moved to this small town.  He was attracted by its beauty and the friendliness of the locals.  He shared with me that he was an author and had written a couple of books on the Mayans and the year 2012. He wrote the books over 20 years ago and at the time did not make much money for his work.  Now that we are getting close to 2012, he stated his books are selling like hot cakes, and he’s now receiving significant royalties every month.  His message to me was to never give up because sometimes you’re bleeding edge and sometimes your leading edge.  Your time will come when you need it most.  What a great message and what a great meeting!

Be Prepared and Get Lucky

A few days ago I was invited to a meeting with two powerhouses in their chosen fields.  The purpose of the meeting was to determine how we all could collaborate on a health and wellness program that could educate individuals from 7 to 70.  I was in awe of the success of both of these gentlemen and was confident that this project would also produce unprecedented success.   One of the men stated it’s not just luck that we are all sitting here, but hard work in cooperation with preparation.  I thoroughly believe that opportunities are always present, and preparedness has to match opportunity.

South of The Border

I’m on my second trip to Mexico in a month. I enjoy challenges, and this one is huge, as I assist in helping a resort grow its business during the most challeging time in its history. Swine flu and the reports of violence have badly damaged the Mexican economy.

My speech this morning focused on sales excellence in a tough market. It appears to me that attitude is everything, as the sales teams work through one of the most difficult times in their history. They are positive and understand that opportunity is always present. I taught them how to use focused synergy to stay on top of their game. This team will excel! They have the right stuff.
